On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by T. Mendoza, and unanimously carried by all, the September 2022 minutes were approved.

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried by all, the new COSC courses were approved.

On a motion by B. Devine, seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried by all, the Consent Items were approved.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:

  1. Student Involvement
  2. Jacobi will be attending a student outreach event in late October. V. Jacobi reiterated the importance of student representation, she will work with M. Cutrona. Divisions were encouraged to offer extra credit for student participation (in clubs) when/if appropriate.
  1. Local Gen. Ed. Pattern

The local Gen Ed pattern may need to be updated to reflect new TC courses as well as Ethnic Studies updates.

  1. Timeline for CAL-GETC implementation
  2. Jacobi covered the timeline for the new CAL-GETC pattern. Fall 2024 is the tentative deadline. The committee briefly discussed competency questions regarding ENGL & PHIL courses. Divisions may need to revise certain courses to comply with the new requirements. The C & GE committee will continue the discussion at a future meeting.
  1. MATH Graduation requirements
  2. AB – 1705

Items D and E were discussed together. The C & GE committee acknowledges the importance of proper placement and will continue working on AB-1705 implementation. Division Chairs were encouraged to read the entire assembly bill. More info will be shared as it becomes available.
