APPROVAL OF MINUTES: ACTION ITEM

  1. November 18, 2022, Curriculum & General Education meeting (3)

On a motion by B. Devine, seconded by M. Oja, and unanimously carried by all, the November minutes were approved with clarification regarding the new MATH pre-requisite.

OSH courses were presented and voted on together. On a amotion by K. Bandy, seconded by B. Devine, and unanimously carried by all, the new OSH courses were approved.

  1. PHED XXXX     Beginning Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
  2. PHED XXXX     Intermediate Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
  3. PHED XXXX     Beginning Social Dance
  4. PHED XXXX     Intermediate Social Dance

PHED courses were presented and voted on together. On a motion by M. Oja, seconded by M. Mayfield, and unanimously carried by all, the new PHED courses were approved.

New Courses – Business Arts & Humanities

  1. ART 1830       Graphic Design II
  2. COMM 1550 Sports Broadcasting
  3. Bledsoe pulled ART 1830 from the C & GE agenda. The Business, Arts, and Humanities division will bring the course forward when the work is complete.
  4. Travis introduced the new COMM 1550 course to the committee. On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by K. Bandy, and unanimously carried by all, the new COMM course was approved.

 New Program – Math and Science Division

  1. Computer Science AST - New

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by M. Oja, and unanimously carried by all, the new Computer Science program was approved.

CONSENT ITEMS

Item B. was pulled from consent by Division Chair.

On a motion by B. Devine, seconded by M. Oja, and unanimously carried by all, the Consent items were approved.

A brief discussion was had regarding where this program would be housed. Engineering A.S. will remain in the Math and Science division. On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by B. Devine, and unanimously carried by all, the Engineering revisions were approved.

Distance Learning Approvals

DISCUSSION ITEMS:

  1. Program ideas/Programs in development

Jacobi covered various programs in the works as well as future program ideas. Program ideas include: Agriculture, Medic/Paramedic Certificate, Data Science Certificate, Psychology Technology Certificate, and ECEF Certificates.

Item was not discussed.

  1. AB – 1705
  2. Jacobi reviewed the language of AB-1705 which has to do with amendments to AB-705. She invited members to do the same. The committee briefly discussed the language of the law, learning activities, and the challenges ahead. The committee discussed various ideas of student support. Among those ideas were, incorporating tutoring into the course, adding an additional unit, and “directed learning”. The goal is to address/implement appropriate support for students with gaps. Information will be shared as it becomes available.

The Spring C & GE meeting schedule may be changed in order to accommodate those working the 9-80 schedule.
