DISCUSSION ITEMS:

  1. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Curriculum: Model Principles and Practices

The committee reviewed DEI in Curriculum: Model Principles and Practices handout from the Academic Senate. After reviewing the presentation, M. Mayfield outlined a few points. It is his understanding that the process is not intended to be an exhaustive project. He intends to review all his courses with a DEI lens. One way to ensure new Faculty include DEI in their coursework is by including specific textbooks, and Professional Development. The committee shared various ideas to implement this process. In some cases, it may be appropriate to add a DEI statement to the course description. Class discussions, scenarios, photographs, etc. are things that can be reviewed/updated to meet the DEI process. The committee also discussed updating Charters to reflect the implementation of a DEI process, where applicable. This item will be discussed as more information becomes available.

  1. Board Policies – new policies in place
  2. Jacobi gave a brief update on our campus updating AP/BP’s. V. Jacobi will share new or updated policies with the committee when they apply to our group. The Presidents Office is working to finalize every revision they received at the end of Spring 2022.
  3. Required Training for Certification
  4. Jacobi went over the annual certification training from the curriculum Institute. This allows our campus to continue approving non-substantial curriculum changes.
  1. Agendas for future meetings

Instruction will review Division Chair schedules to find possible meeting days & times. A message will be sent in the following days.

  1. Parliamentary procedure update

Chairs of the Academic Senate, Sub-committees, will be getting together to compare charters. The goal is to be consistent with our processes. This item will come back when applicable.
