Timeline, and Special Requests

Overall Timeline

  • Request:
Submit a formal request to DE Director and the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician via email [email protected] (24-48 hours period)
  • Background:
The DE Director and the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician will perform a needs assessment and vendor evaluation. The assessment will consist of conversations with various stakeholders. The vendor evaluation will consist of meeting with the vendor, checking accessibility, overall cost/negotiation, checking for compliance, and other policies (1-2 months).
  • Prioritization:
DE will try to pilot the software in the Canvas testing environment. Various stakeholders and some faculty will be asked to investigate the software. Resources will be created as well as training provided to the faculty (2-3 months).
  • Integration:
The Director of DE (or the person who is paying for the software) will put in a formal request for Board approval. Once the board approves the contract, the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician will integrate the software into Taft College’s Canvas instance (2-3 months).
  • Total Time:
From start to finish for software/technology to be integrated is approximately 5-8 months.

Special Circumstances

  1. There are, however, special circumstances. For example, the software in question is free and accessible; the faculty member only wants this software/tool implemented into their course (and not in the TC Canvas instance) and does not require a contract. Then, the DE Director and the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician will examine the tool, and the DE Director will determine if the tool can be implemented into the faculty member Canvas course (and not in the TC Canvas instance).
    1. DE, however, will not support (or endorse) that tool/software. If there are troubleshooting issues regarding student access or other student issues, DE cannot assist in troubleshooting. It will be up to the faculty member or the vendor to assist in all troubleshooting issues.

Special Circumstances Timeline

If you intend to implement the LTI solely within your course (without integrating it into the TC Canvas instance), please inform the DE team about the tool as soon as possible. However, it's important to note that determining the following factors will still require time:

  1. Does the LTI tool have a VPAT?
  2. Is the LTI tool accessible?
  3. Does it incur costs for students?
  4. What types of downloads (if any) are required?

For special circumstances cases, there is still a timeline to consider. Instead of the typical 5-8 months, the process will take approximately 1 month. However, if you request LTI installation just before your course begins, we may not be able to accommodate your request immediately. We must ensure accessibility and usability for all students.
