LTI Needs Assessment

The DE Director and the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician will perform a needs assessment at the beginning of every fiscal year (July), to determine if various LTI tools are being utilized (or underutilized).

    1. If the tool in question is not being utilized, then the DE Director will determine if that LTI tool is still needed. If the tool in question is no longer needed, then the DE Integrated Technology Support Technician will expunge that tool from the TC Canvas instance.
    2. Determining whether an LTI tool is not being utilized at Taft College involves assessing several factors related to its adoption, usage, and impact on teaching and learning.

LTI Effectiveness

The following are some indicators that may suggest an LTI tool is not being effectively utilized (and may be expunged from the TC Canvas instance).
  • Low User Engagement
If the tool has been integrated but sees consistently low user engagement or usage metrics, it may indicate that faculty or students are not actively utilizing the tool.
  • Limited Integration Across Courses
If the LTI tool is integrated into Canvas but its adoption is limited to specific courses or departments, it may not be fully utilized across the institution.
  • Lack of Training and Support Requests
Few requests for training or support related to the LTI tool may suggest that users are not actively seeking assistance, possibly indicating low utilization
  • Outdated Content or Information
If the content or information provided by the LTI tool is outdated or not regularly updated, it may suggest a lack of ongoing use or maintenance.
  • Limit Integration with Course Objectives
If the LTI tool does not align well with course objectives or if faculty members are not incorporating it into their course design, it may indicate underutilization.
  • Feedback from Faculty and Students
Solicit feedback from faculty and students (in the form of emails, conversations/discussions, and surveys) about their experiences with the LTI tool. Lack of positive feedback or specific use cases may indicate underutilization.
  • Incompatibility Issues
Frequent technical issues, incompatibility with other systems, or challenges in integrating the LTI tool into the existing technology infrastructure may hinder its utilization.
  • Accessibility
If the LTI tool does not have a VPAT and/or Accessibility Policy clearly stated, then a more thorough investigation by the DE Director and the Accessibility Technician will determine if the tool meets the standards of Taft College’s accessibility policies. If it is determined that the tool does not meet the minimum standards for accessibility, the tool will be expunged from the TC Canvas instance.

If an LTI tool will be expunged an official notification will be sent to all TC faculty, staff, and students (via DE monthly newsletter) regarding the tool that is no longer in the TC Canvas instance.
