Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting

October 13, 2023

Meeting called to order at 1:14 p.m.

On a motion by B. Devine, seconded by M. Mayfield, the September minutes were approved.

On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by B. Devine, and unanimously carried by all, the new courses were approved.

3. PHED 16XX      Beginning Pickleball
4. PHED 16XX      Intermediate Pickleball

The Yoga courses were pulled from the Agenda.

On a motion by T. Mendoza, seconded by M. Mayfield, and unanimously carried by all, the new Pickleball courses were approved.

2. COMM 1580 Introduction to Communication Studies

The COMM courses were tabled until SLOs can be reviewed.

Item IV. A. 1. ECEF 1581 was not discussed because it was approved at the September 2023 Curriculum and Gen. Ed. meeting.

On a motion by B. Devine, seconded by J. Rangel-Escobedo, T. Mendoza abstained; the consent items were approved.

 

1. Curriculum & General Education Charter review

The Committee reviewed and made revisions to the C & GE Charter for 23-24. Revisions included removing hybrid from the modality option, under Distance Learning & Education. The SLO Committee section was revised to specifically identify its role. The flowchart made one adjustment by making Distance Learning an official “step” in the process. On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by B. Devine and unanimously carried by all, the revised charter was approved.

 

1. General education requirement changes and SLOs

Jacobi shared an update on the upcoming changes to the GE Requirements. A major change is the total number of units going from 18 to 21.

 

1. AB 1111 Common Course Numbering status

Jacobi shared the implementation date of the Common Course numbering System as July 2024.

 

1. AB 1705 calculus validation for MATH 1530 & 1540 fall 2024 issue.

The committee briefly discussed the possible challenges ahead. V. Jacobi hopes to provide an update by the next C & GE meeting.

 

1. CTE Committee update

Jacobi briefly shared a CTE Comm. update. Work Experience changes have been chaptered in Title V.
