  1. Discussion Items:
  2. Local General Education Courses and new SLOs
  3. Jacobi shared the recent changes to the Local Gen Ed. Pattern. Notable changes include the overall unit value going from 18 to 21 units. The committee reviewed the Local Gen. Ed. Pattern (worksheet). V. Jacobi informed the committee of two ETHN courses under development. Division chairs were asked to review their area courses and verify the SLOs still align. The committee discussed potential additions to areas, these include adding HIST courses to “Arts & Humanities,” an ENGL course to “Communications & Analytical Thinking,” an ADMJ course to Social & Behavioral Sciences. B. Devine asked about the effect this would have on our current students. T. Payne informed the committee that our students can graduate with the “current” Local Pattern, and they will not be affected. A brief discussion was had regarding GOVT courses and whether they should be required. S. Eveland shared the benefits of learning how an “American Institution” functions/operates. J. Rangel-Escobedo added that most “Local” Gen. Ed. Pattern students have been in the Community College system longer (on average) than the other paths/patterns available. V. Jacobi briefly touched on the INCO requirement before AB-705. The committee ended the discussion on the common course numbering system. The “AB – 1111 CCT” drafted an outline of findings & considerations. The report will be shared at our December C & GE meeting. The implementation deadline is July 2024.
