Mathematics Degree for Transfer
Description
The Associate in Science in Mathematics degree for Transfer (AS-T) is designed to prepare students to transfer to a California State University (CSU) as a junior with a degree in Mathematics. This degree provides students with the foundation classes to support ongoing interest in the field of mathematics.
The core consists of the calculus sequence required for transfer, in which students acquire a conceptual understanding of the principles of differential and integral calculus for functions in one and several variables, as well as the ability to apply calculus techniques in a variety of applications.

Earnings Potential
An associate degree in mathematics for transfer offers you the salary potential of $24,209 two years after graduation from Taft College, with expected increases to $60,163 at five years, based on five-year studies of graduates by California Community Colleges. These do not reflect salaries with a four-year degree.1
Career options are varied, and many typically require a minimum of a four-year degree additional training and/or education. Some examples include artificial intelligence researcher, computer programmer, cryptographer teacher, robotics engineer, and satellite communications careers. According to the U.S, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage is $46,560 for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks; $77,250 for accountants and actuaries; $91,580 for financial analysts; $100,910 for data scientists; $105,900 for actuaries; and $131,710 for financial planners. The wide range in career options is illustrated by financial planners: they work independently and with organizations; they may provide their clients with professional advice regarding investments, insurance, tax, wealth management, and retirement planning; and they may serve as chief financial officers. The BLS projects 17% job growth for financial managers from 2021 to 2031, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.
In the lead for projected job growth is the occupation of data scientists is at a remarkable 36% for the decade.2

Program Requirements
To earn an Associate in Science in Mathematics degree for Transfer (AS-T), students must complete all course requirements with a minimum grade of “C” in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis; and must complete the General Education Breadth pattern for CSUs with an overall GPA of 2.0. There are no local graduation requirements associated with this degree.
Additionally, students shall be deemed eligible for transfer into a CSU baccalaureate program when the student meets both the following requirements:
- Completion of a minimum of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible
for transfer to CSU, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education Breadth Requirements.
- A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
- Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
