Master Teacher: Certificate of Achievement

Description

The Master Teacher curriculum provides another level of training for those seeking a career in early care, education, and family relations. The Master Teacher Certificate of Achievement may be earned by students who satisfactorily complete the required courses listed below with a “C” or better in addition to the adult supervision course and specializations courses required for the Master Teacher Permit as outlined by the Child Development Matrix. For PSYC 2003, ECEF 1501, ECEF 1531, ECEF 1590, and Electives, students may take the transferable or non-transferable version of the course

Specialization Courses

Six units of specialization required from one of the following areas:

OPTION 1: Infant Development: Master Teacher Specialization
- ECEF 1581: Introduction to Infant Development Infant, Family, and Society (3.0 credit hours)
- ECEF 1584: Field Experience for Infant and Toddler Care and Development (2.0 credit hours)
Choose one unit from the following:
- ECEF 1582: Infant Massage (1.0 credit hour)
- ECEF 1583: Using Infant Cures (1.0 credit hour)
OPTION 2: Special Needs: Master Teacher Specialization
- ECEF 1611: Introduction to Children With Special Needs Birth to Age Eight (3.0 credit hours)
- ECEF 1612: Curriculum and Intervention for Children with Special Needs (3.0 credit hours)
OPTION 3: School Age Care and Development: Master Teacher Specialization
- ECEF 2021: Introduction to the Primary Grade Classroom (3.0 credit hours)
- ECEF 1654: Discipline Techniques for School-Age Children and Adolescents (1.0 credit hours)

Combined Total Credit Hours: 33.0

To receive a Master Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing a student must also complete 350 days of 3+ hours of experience per day within four years. Students must also successfully complete 16 general education units, six specialization units, and two adult supervision units.
