Meeting Called to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 10:09 am.

May Minutes Approval:

  • The committee reviewed and approved the minutes from May’s meeting.

New IT Director Status

  • Dan Hall started the meeting talking about the status of the IT Director position. Andrew Prestage will start on September 25, 2017.

Password Procedure

  • Mark talked about the new password procedure. Mark will be sending out notifications about the new password requirements in the next couple of months.
  • The passwords should contain at least 8 characters and include upper and lower case. Mark’s goal is to make passwords about 10 characters long.
  • Classroom computers will not be affected with the change.
  • Mark also talked about his single sign-on project. He will possibly be working with a third party vendor down the road to assist in building and implementing the project.
  • Richard asked about possible security issues with single sign-on. Mark’s response to the question is a two-step authentication will be used to ensure security issues.

10Gb Internet Connection Update

  • Mark talked about the new 10Gb internet connection. This new connection is being paid for and provided by the State Chancellor’s office.
  • He currently has the new firewall and will work on getting it connected.
  • December is the target date for the new connection to go live.
  • Soon after the new connection goes live, back-ups will be dumped into the cloud instead of on tapes.

Office 2016 Classroom Installation Update

  • All classrooms in the Science and Tech Arts buildings, the thin clients in the “G” Buildings, and all laptops located around campus had Office 2016 installed over the summer.
  • Faculty and staff will have Office 2016 installed over the Fall 2017 semester.

Wincows 10 for Staff/Faculty

  • We will be proceeding with the rollout of Windows 10 and eventually upgrade all faculty and staff computers to Windows 10. There’s no target date of the official rollout or when the installations will occur as of today.
