Minutes of the Curriculum and General Education Committee Meeting

CALL TO ORDER

Meeting called to order at 1:15 p.m. V. Jacobi re-arranged a few items on the agenda because a brief discussion will be had before the vote. The items moved from consent to New Business are COMM 1507, 1511, and ENGL 1502.

On a motion from M. Mayfield, seconded by B. Devine, and unanimously carried by all, the minutes were approved.

 

III.           ACTION ITEMS: NEW COURSES – TABLED FROM THE MARCH C & GE MEETING:

POSC was tabled to a future meeting.

On a motion by M. Mayfield, seconded by B. Devine, and unanimously carried by all, AP 4020, and 4100 were approved.

The COMM courses above must be revised to meet articulation requirements. On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by T. Payne, and unanimously carried by all, the COMM courses were approved.

 

  1. ENGL 1502       Composition and Reading for Multilingual Students

ENGL was created to meet multilingual student needs. On a motion by T. Payne, seconded by M. Mayfield, T. Mendoza abstained, the ENGL course was approved by majority.

On a motion by J. Rangel-Escobedo, seconded by T. Payne, and unanimously carried by all, the consent items were approved. (ART 1650 was not part of the DE/L vote)

 

  1. DISCUSSION ITEMS
  2. AB 1111

Jacobi gave an update on AB 1111. The state has selected a few pilot courses for the new system. The courses we will need to re-number are in the following areas, ENGL , COMM, STAT, POSC, and PSYC. There will be an update in mid-August.

  1. Catalog Rights

A brief discussion was had regarding our catalog rights policy. Typically, a students catalog rights begin the summer after HS graduation. Some issues arise when courses change titles, acronyms or numbers. We will continue to the discussion at a future meeting.  Among the most common catalog rights issues Locally there have been minor issues when courses change titles.
