  1. Disability Services CDCP Non-Credit Certificate/ Independent Facilitator Certificate RFP DISC/ACTION

Kelly provided an update on the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) RFP for Independent Facilitator Certification. Kelly shared the new RFP was released December 4th, and the plan is not too complicated. She has been meeting with Jaime Lopez, Associate Dean of Instruction, and is working on background information. The plan is due January 24th. Kelly is happy to collaborate with others on grant if anyone is interested in writing, proof reading, etc. Vicki and Darcy stated they were willing to help, as needed.

Work Experience Education Regulations Revisions DISC/ACTION

The committee reviewed the revised AP 4103 Work Experience Education provided by Sarah Criss from the Office of the President. Kelly Kulzer motioned to approve the revised procedure, as is, and the motion was seconded by Vicki Jacobi. Motion passed. Darcy will communicate this to Sarah and Academic Senate for further review, discussion, and support/approval. The committee will continue to review other APs and BPs, that reference work experience, for potential changes to other policies and procedures. The committee will also review the District’s Work Experience Plan to ensure all necessary procedures specified in AP 4103 are addressed/included in the plan.

  1. ASL Labor Market Analysis DISC/ACTION

The committee reviewed the ASL Labor Market Analysis. Although Taft College is not necessarily looking to begin an ASL program, the committee discussed offering ASL I and II to support students interested in pursuing audiology, speech pathology, and communicative sciences programs.

  1. Speech Pathology Labor Market Analysis DISC/ACTION

The committee reviewed the Speech Pathology Labor Market Analysis. Based upon the shortage, specifically in the CVML region (454 workers), the committee recommends Taf College support the recommendation to work with partners in program development to address the shortage of Speech Pathology workers in the region (page 9).

ASL courses were last taught in 2010, and have since been deactivated. The committee discussed reactivating ASL courses as a great place to start to initially support Speech Pathology needs. Vicki shared with technology, it may be easier to find adjuncts to teach ASL courses now, as they can be taught remotely via distance learning as well as face to face. Kelly shared ASL courses can support Disability Services (DS) degrees/certs as well as the Independent Facilitator Certificate, if approved. ASL would also be another language option for any students to meet transfer general education requirements, pending approval of the classes to meet general education. Currently, Spanish is the only language offered. Finally, ASL can support the AD-T Communication Studies 2.0 degree and the local AA-Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Communication degree. Another potential liberal arts degree in the future might be AA-Liberal Arts w/ an emphasis in Communicative Disorders.

Vicki Jacobi motioned to reactivate ASL I and ASL II courses (updating CORs, building SLOs, sending in for transfer general education approval). Kristi Richards seconded. Motion carried. Darcy will communicate this interest to Academic Senate for further review, discussion, and support/approval.
